VERTICAL CITY

It's summer in the city!

June 22, 2008: In the spring of 2007 I got into photography. In part, I began the hobby as an escape. I was having trouble adjusting to New York life, and the city was still largely a maze to me. I bought a compact camera and in just a couple of months, I snapped 2300 frames with it. So, as a celebration of being permanently hired and the financial security that brought with it, I treated myself to a "real" camera. It felt like a huge purchase. The difference between a DSLR and a compact was night and day, both in image quality and in the user experience. The Nikon D40 was the camera of my dreams, and the 3x zoom kit lens seemed to be all I'd ever need. I felt, "hey, I'm liberated -- the camera is no longer a limiting factor," so I ran out day after day to take pictures. I concentrated not on enjoying my new gear, but on the pictures themselves, and making them good. This gallery was the result of that month exploring New York City. I've made some revisions to the set, but they are under the hood. Because it's so popular and many visitors at my website know this series and the pictures in it, I haven't deleted or rearranged anything. I did add one, though.

Feel free to email me if you're interested in purchasing prints.

Please don't save images onto your computer, link to them, etc. -- I pay $5 a month so you can see them here, at my website, any time you want!
